Press Releases: More Trouble for the Warners

There is trouble in the Warner household tonight as Guy's parenting skills come into question...

Since Guy Warner (Craig Parker) arrived back in Ferndale to stay with his brother Chris Warner (Michael Galvin) and wife Toni (Laura Hill), the relationship, as expected, has become increasingly strained. With tensions about to overflow and Chris determined to send Guy to rehab and have Tuesday live with him, Tuesday Warner (Olivia Tennent) is finding her loyalties increasingly torn.

Actor Craig Parker believes that breaking up father and daughter may not be the best idea, and although the relationship between the two is unconventional, they are a strong unit and rely on each other heavily. "Guy and Tuesday's relationship has definitely been unconventional but they're a very tight team of two where the roles of parent/child often get blurred," says Parker. "They both love and protect each other but, because of Guy's avoidance of anything resembling Warner stability or responsibility, it's often Tuesday doing the protecting." With Guy's penchant for doing drugs a focal point for Chris' concerns, is Guy turning his back on Tuesday's worries for the sake of his own?

"I don't think Guy really sees it that way," says Parker. "Tuesday is enormously capable and has become so good at protecting her father that she doesn't show him her own doubts or fears. The team works and, for Guy, that means things are OK."

Even if things are fine, taking drugs openly in front of a 14-year-old would be the last thing written in any book on parental guidelines. Parker admits that there is a fair amount of addict-justification going on in Guy's life, and accepts that his parental skills may not be entirely sound.

"Guy's life is out of control and he's relying on chemicals to get him through. As far as having confidence in his skills as a parent, what parent truly does? He knows the theory and Tuesday appears to be a success, but he's been making it up as he goes along. Growing up a Warner didn't give him the best illustration of positive parenting. In fact, his parenting philosophy seems based entirely on taking his parents example and doing the exact opposite."

Viewers can only hope that a positive outcome will be reached between Guy and Chris. Although Guy's horizon appears bleak, Parker is positive that matters can eventually be sorted out for the best. "For Guy, I think it's going to be messy for a while. The thing he's so desperate for is the same thing he's trying so hard to run from... stability. But, and sounding very much like one of Guy's self-help books now, none of this is going to happen until he stops running and accepts who he is and what it really means to be a Warner."
