Lord of the Rings fans flock to Derby Playhouse
Fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy have been buying tickets to see New Zealand born actor Craig Parker in his latest role as scriptwriter ‘Matt’ in the comedy Serial Killers at Derby Playhouse. Craig played ‘Haldir of Lorien’ in both The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers.
Craig’s role as Haldir earned him cult status amongst Lord of the Rings fans including a large contingent from Germany where a website has been set up to celebrate Craig’s acting performances. A number of fans from Germany have already booked their tickets to make the trip to Derby.
Founder of www.craigparker.de, Claudia Sieber, talks about why she is making the long trip to Derby to see Craig on stage:
"After knowing Craig since 2002 [Lord of the Rings Trilogy] as a magnificent entertainer I got curious about the other side of his work, like theatre for example. And because I always wanted to travel to Great Britain I thought I could see this play to finally make my wishes reality."
The comedy, Serial Killers, is the third production in the theatre’s 30th anniversary season of ‘killer tales’ and is set to transfer to the West End stage following its run in Derby.
In the show, when soap-star heart-throb Andrew Lomas learns that scriptwriters are planning to write him out of the show he takes the storyline of ‘Heart of Hearts’ into his own hands. A razor sharp comedy that looks at the absurdities of life in an Australian soap and the lives and loves of its cast and crew. | | |
