Season 6, Episode 59: "May the force be with you" (original air date: March 19, 2004)

Ken finds evidence of alien life in Bassett as Wendy forms a dangerous obsession. Alistair finds love, a future and makes an ambitious proposal.

Alistair is still enjoying stolen time with Nicky. Gabrielle disapproves, but claims to be saying nothing. The reappearance of Amanda and the arrival of Curtis Willoughby's mother make it clear to Alistair that Nicky has misgivings. And when Barbara Willoughby gives him information which could be vital to Kieran's case, Alistair does not reveal it.

Meanwhile, William is recuperating from his injuries, but Alistair and Nicky are alarmed when he seems determined to return to work before he is ready. In order to forestall this, Nicky accepts the offer to take over the practice, but Alistair realises she has done this more out of duty than desire. He takes a firm hand with William, which turns into an ugly confrontation.

Nicky and Gabrielle reach rock bottom when Gabrielle accuses Nicky of betraying her true feelings by being with Alistair. Nicky eventually admits her feelings of discomfort and Alistair reveals the vital clue he has heard from Barbara, hoping it will lead to closure. Nicky offers this information to Kieran, but finds his lawyer already knows. Furthermore, Kieran also knows about her relationship with Alistair. Nicky is angry with Gabrielle for saying a lot more than nothing, but Gabrielle defends her actions. Alistair comes to a realisation about his future and how to resolve things with William. He offers to take over the practice - and William accepts. Nicky worries that Alistair has made this noble gesture for her. Alistair knows this is unlikely.

Ken finds there's a strange phenomenon at work in Bassett. Cars are losing power, TVs losing reception - but only on one stretch of road. Ken starts to hope that it could be the work of unseen, possibly alien forces. Alistair thinks Ken is using any excuse to avoid Wendy, but Ken is in hot denial. Wendy, meanwhile has discovered that Chad and Dana have broken up and jumps to the worst possible conclusion - that Ken's obsession with alien life is a cover for resuming his relationship with Dana. Wendy thinks she's hit pay dirt when Dana defends Ken's hobby - and Wendy feels goaded into abuse. Ken is disturbed to hear this, but Wendy insists everything would be fine if Ken would just have nothing more to do with Dana. At this Ken baulks, and suggests Wendy needs psychological help. Seeing she's pushed things too far, Wendy agrees.

But as Ken and Wendy go out for a reconciliation dinner, Dana is unfortunately there with the netball team. When Wendy trips near the table, she lashes out at Dana. For Ken this it the final straw in Wendy's unreasonable jealousy. He ends the relationship, but Wendy fights back - threatening to lay a complaint of domestic violence. Ken stands firm, but Wendy makes it clear she still has the power to ruin his career.

Ken is disappointed to find that the alien forces seem to have vanished, but if there was a message he seems to have received it. There may be hope for him, with Dana.
