Season 5, Episode 44: "Rules of the game" (original air date: August 22, 2003)

Dana's hard lot as coach to Jordan's grade 10 soccer team is made worse when Chook nearly gets into a scrap with the ref. Chad questions the point of playing without winning, but Dana is defensive: The game is meant to be about having fun. Dana is touched when Chad offers to stand in for her, and thrilled when the team wins after a coaching session with him. This quickly palls when an irate Chook complains that the team have been bribed to victory by American cash. Chad admits he offered financial incentives and is hurt that Dana can't see that his reasons were genuine.

With a little stirring from Chook, the parents have decided to oust Dana as coach, leaving her hurt and upset. Chad takes revenge by cancelling Chook's prison site contract, earning the ire of locals. Dana goes to the last game of the season with a heavy heart. When the game goes badly, Chook takes his ire out on the kids and anyone else present. Ken steps in with a warning and Dana wrests back control of the team.

Meanwhile, Louise faces up to a visit to see her son with his adopted parents Jill and David, something she has been putting off. William avoids this duty by going his rental property in Daphne Ave, which he is planning to sell to fund an obscure leg of their planned overseas trip. But the property is in disarray, so he calls the plumber.

Louise finds that Jill has been keeping something back from her - she and David have separated over an affair which David has been involved in for years. Feeling betrayed, Louise consults a lawyer about revoking the adoption, but William's response is less than sympathetic. Her former husband Ross also thinks she has no claim.

Louise feels that if she had wanted her son to be raised by a solo parent, she could have done it herself, a sentiment which makes William angry, since he had offered her his full support. He now feels the whole relationship is in question. Louise is rocked to realise how angry William is. She also sees she's about to lose William - and makes a decision. However, happiness is interrupted by a call from Ken at Daphne Ave - plumbing excavations have revealed a long-dead body under the floorboards...
