Season 4, Episode 38: "Saturday night fever" (original air date: April 4, 2003)

Sunday: Nicky is called in at 5am to deal with casualties from the Bassett High School ball. Gemma has broken her ankle and has suspicious bruising after falling from a first storey window. Nicky is intrigued to find Sascha and Matt, Ken's younger offsider, in attendance. Sascha is concerned to find her father not at home. Nicky is rather shifty...

Saturday evening: A group of teenagers are off for a fun night. Troy is already causing trouble, seemingly keen on Sascha and envious of Andrew's relationship with Gemma. As they leave for the ball, Kieran receives a fax.

Nicky's quiet evening on call is interrupted by the proud maker of the best pinot gris in the world. Kieran wanted to share the news with someone who would care. He is frustrated, however, when she sticks to her one glass and he becomes rather drunker.

Sunday: Nicky fears that Gemma has been sexually assaulted. Kieran arrives, full of parental concern. He is intrigued to see one of the partygoers, Goose, guiltily fleeing. And when he goes to inform Gemma's boyfriend Andrew about her condition, he is clearly covering something. Gemma tells Nicky and Sascha about the events that led her to jump out the window: At the post-ball party, Troy and his friends tried to assault her. But then Andrew denies this version of events, insisting he is responsible for Gemma's injuries. Matt doesn't understand why he is protecting his friends and Sascha sees a male conspiracy at work.

Meanwhile, William's breakfast prep is interrupted by a perplexing sight. A very hungover Ken in Alistair's company. Alistair and Ken have been out for quick drink, which has turned into quite a few for Ken. Bitter in his heartbreak, he sees women as the source of all evil. And when Ken goes missing, Alistair is worried.

Determined to get to the truth- and feeling a measure of guilt because he has been out having a good time while mayhem reigned - Kieran tracks down Goose. He finds that Andrew is not protecting himself, or his friends - he is covering up the fact that he is the one who has been raped. When Troy and Goose are brought in after a punch-up, Nicky is aware that this is revenge for what has happened to Andrew. She also fears that events of the day have made Kieran regret their evening together.

Alistair tracks down Ken outside Dana's house and discovers he has been following her. Alistair tries to counsel him out of stalking - and admits he has been in love with someone for a long time, but has decided that he can't let it ruin his life anymore. Ken mistakenly assumes he's talking about Helen, when he actually means Nicky...
