Season 3, Episode 27: "Festival of romance" (original air date: October 6, 2002)
Bassett is gripped by romance fever in the form of the Romance Festival, sponsored by Beckhoven's quality pork products. But not everyone is keen to join in.
Struck by the irony of atmosphere around her, Louise suggests relationship counselling for herself and Ross. It prompts Ross to an admission: He reveals that he has been seeing prostitutes. This is a bombshell for Louise, but Ross isn't without defence. This began when Louise was having her affair with William.
When Nicky, uncharacteristically cynical about romance, flees the ball, it's Alistair who meets Helen, possibly the answer to their locum prayers.
Meanwhile, there is a far more important issue: Who will be festival queen? Ken is appalled to find that Dana has accepted the honour and will be ogled on the back of a truck by every man in town. He applies not-so-subtle pressure to get her to change her mind, unaware that Dana has other pressures.
Gary, Jordan's father, arrives back in town, intent on making up for his past neglect. Dana is initially unimpressed, but goes out with Gary, only to find that he wants Dana and Jordan to come away with him. Dana's resistant, but there's still that old chemistry. Ken, blissfully unaware, struggles with his jealousy and finally gives Dana his grudging permission to get on that truck. Annoyed, she tries to make him understand what it means to her to be special for two minutes in her life. Upset, he tries to make her understand the depth of his feeling for her.
Dana is torn, but decides to take real life over romantic possibility, the life she has made for herself. She also decides on Ken.
Louise starts to hope that Ross is only trying to hurt her with tales, but her investigations reveal it is the truth. She realises the depth of Ross's hurt, but finds that the escorts may no longer be the issue. Ross admits to having had a closer relationship with just one, Angela. This forces recriminations - whether it is indeed worse to sleep with escorts or to lie about being in love with just one man. Louise feels her life is in shreds, then is surprised to find that Ross seems to have no intention of ending the relationship.
Louise packs her bags to move out.
